CCECE 2018 – 31st Canadian Conference on Electrical & Computer Engineering

Welcome from the General Chairs

CCECE 2018

When it was held for the last time in Québec City in 1991, CCECE was barely more than a toddler celebrating its 4th birthday. Way back then, Windows 3 had just been released, Ethernet was almost unheard of, and state-of-the-art 50 MHz CPUs were making their debuts. We might as well have said this was eons ago.

These examples illustrate how fast paced our industry is, and this one of the reasons we feel conferences are important. It is an unrivaled opportunity to get up to speed with the latest developments, foray into new fields and emerging topics, and network with colleagues to strengthen partnerships and foster new collaborations. It is with these goals in mind for you that we welcome you to the 31st Annual IEEE Canadian Conference on Electrical and Computer Engineering (CCECE 2018) to be held in Québec City, Canada on May 13–16, 2018. Sponsored by IEEE Canada, and the Quebec and Montreal sections of IEEE, CCECE is open to anyone with interest in the following topics.

Under the general theme Innovation for a Better World, CCECE will be made up of oral presentations and technical sessions, tutorials, keynotes, as well as social events. The technical program is divided in 11 tracks, including three of special relevance to the greater Québec area: Photonics & Optoelectronics, Sustainable Energy, and Non-Destructive Testing. All papers accepted for presentation will be archived in the proceedings and in IEEE Xplore.

Québec City

The birthplace of French North America and the only walled city north of Mexico, Québec City is the oldest permanently-inhabited settlement in North America. It wonderfully blends European background to modern North American character, history and tradition to contemporary art, and close by nature to culture to make Québec City a destination like no other.

Québec City’s reputation as a great destination has been confirmed time and again. Recently, it ranked 2nd in Expedia’s list of best destinations in North America and 1st in Canada. TripAdvisor Travelers’ Choice Awards 2015, Québec City ranks 2nd in the Top 10 Best Destinations in Canada. Also, the November 2014 Conde Nast Traveler (USA) - “Readers’ Choice Awards 2014” ranked it first among the best destinations  in Canada and 18th worldwide.

With thousands of hotel rooms for all budgets within a 10-minute walking distance of the conference venue, which is located right a minute away from the famous “Old Québec”, we’re sure your presence to CCECE 2018 will be a memorable one.

On behalf of the organizing committee, we extend to all of you a warm invitation to attend CCECE 2018.

Amine MILED & Xavier MALDAGUE
General Co-Chairs, CCECE 2018
